Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University Faculty of Agriculture is the first and only Agricultural Higher Education Institution operating in the Thrace Region, established in 1982 under Trakya University. Our faculty was transferred to Namık Kemal University, which was established in 2006. With the 6th article of the Official Gazette dated May 18, 2018 and numbered 30425, our university name was defined as Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University.
The Faculty of Agriculture, which has been successfully continuing the education of Agricultural Engineering, which is a very important and wide field of activity from farm to table in the agricultural sector, since its establishment, currently provides undergraduate and graduate education in 9 different departments and 22 main science branches affiliated to them. Our students who receive undergraduate education graduate with the titles of Agricultural Engineering, Food Engineering and Biosystems Engineering.
Our faculty has increased the quality of its services by taking part in all kinds of activities organized by our University within the framework of its responsibility to share information with the society. It has contributed to the national economy by developing new culture plant varieties and by making plant and animal production.
Our faculty provides education services in two main buildings, the Dean's Office Building (Block A) and Block B.
The Dean's Office Building houses the Department of Biosystems Engineering, the Department of Food Engineering and the Department of Animal Science. In addition, there are student and research laboratories of the relevant departments, the Faculty Student Affairs Unit and the Faculty Printing-Publishing Unit, the Faculty Conference Hall, amphitheater and classrooms.
Our faculty's Block B Building houses the Department of Horticulture, Department of Plant Protection, Department of Agricultural Economics, Department of Agricultural Biotechnology, Department of Field Crops, Department of Soil Science and Plant Nutrition academic units, student and research laboratories, amphitheater and classrooms.
In addition, we have Research, Application and Production buildings in the Değirmenaltı Campus, including the Agricultural Machinery Workshop, Selector Building and Cattle Breeding Unit. Outside the campus, the establishment of our Faculty's Education, Research and Application Farm in Köseilyas is ongoing, and the Small Cattle (Sheep) Unit has been put into operation. There is an Agricultural Biotechnology Research and Production Unit (ZIRAATbiotech) affiliated to our Faculty, which was established with the support of our University Rectorate and Thrace Development Agency and has started operating.
Students do not have much difficulty finding a job after graduating as good engineers. They find jobs in ministries, municipalities, other public institutions and organizations operating in the agricultural sector of the country and region, large and small industrial organizations based on agriculture, agricultural enterprises, unions or chambers. There are job opportunities in private enterprises, especially in soil, seed, fertilizer, medicine, irrigation, feed, food, landscaping, animal husbandry, agricultural tools and machinery. They have the opportunity to open agricultural consultancy offices and laboratories, establish private enterprises and conduct their own agricultural activities. They can continue their education after graduation at universities and research institutions and become researchers or academicians.
